I of course mean love of God and love of others, It can be turned to the opposite, to love of self, and love of things of the world. Those are lower base loves that have to be removed first. One's life or will is what one loves. As God is love, true love is to do that which is useful, guided by what is truth. The theology of the New Church is similar to that of Utilitarianism, except that every act is not judged by external outcomes (as in Utilitarianism), but by one's internal intent.

So, love must be guided by truth, there must be a union between love and truth, one cannot just love everybody and everything equally.Doug Webberhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11071107950046910342noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9030257666913290314.post-62944268719643252932014-12-19T20:16:06.440-05:002014-12-19T20:16:06.440-05:00If our purpose is to love, should not the next que...If our purpose is to love, should not the next question be: A love of what?

Otherwise we are still in the dark.
I don't think you mean (for example), a love of alcohol, or of chess, as the primary revelation from God.
