I decided to use some of the symbolism that was revealed to Swedenborg, to reveal some of the internal sense of scripture. I decided to look at Psalm 23. And no, its not about a funeral. Here is the Psalm, in its Hebrew parallel structure (Hebrew poetry follows a structure called parallelism, where lines repeat in a slightly different manner).
PSALM 23
a. The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want.
b. He makes me to lie down in green pastures;
c. He leads me beside the still waters.
b. He restores my soul;
c. He leads me in the paths of righteousness for His name's sake.
d. Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death,
e. I will fear no evil; for You are with me;
e. Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me.
d. You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies;
e. You anoint my head with oil;
e. My cup runs over.
c. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me
b. All the days of my life;
a. And I will dwell in the house of the LORD forever.
THE SPIRITUAL SYMBOLISM
And here is how it would look like, in its spiritual sense, normally hidden from man, but closer to angelic thought:
God is my instructor, who will fulfill all my needs.
I will meditate in his instruction;
He will lead me to the truth in quietness.
He restores me to the life of heaven
He leads me to do good from his nature
And though I may be in darkness, and depressed
I will have no fear of hell, for God is with me
The power of God's truth will guard me.
I will be happy in the face of adversity;
I shall receive God's spirit
Until his spirit shall flow out of me
Then goodness and compassion shall be with me
In every state of being;
And I shall dwell in heaven forever.
